Benefit concert being organised for the victims of Hurricane Sandy

Some of the biggest names in music will play a huge, one off benefit concert on the 12th December held in New York City in order to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Not much information has been released yet, but the acts confirmed so far include Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Jon Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys, Roger Waters, Kanye West and The Who. The concert will take place at the historic Madison Square Garden – a venue that saw the brunt of Hurricane Sandy.

Despite the concert being held in America, it is thought that it will be simultaneously broadcast live in the UK, however until further details are released it is unclear what channel will host it.

The super storm slammed into the east coast of America in late October, affecting millions and devastating many low-lying areas from Maryland all the way up to New York. But less than a month after the storm hit plans for a benefit concert were beginning to form.

The 12.12.12 concert is reminiscent of the Concert for New York City, held on 20th October 2001 – just over a month after the horrific 9/11 terrorist attacks. Over $35million was raised in a single night, and the organisers hope that the upcoming concert will have a similar result.

All money raised on the night will be donated to the Robin Hood Relief Fund which is providing money, material and know-how to local organizations that are serving families and individuals in the regions hardest hit by the storm.
