Muse to headline Rock in Rio 2013

Rock band Muse have announced that on September 14th 2013 they are to headline Rock in Rio; one of the biggest and most popular music festivals in the world.

Rock In Rio began in 1985 with massive headline sets from the likes of Rod Stewart and superbands Queen and AC/DC. Since then many of the world biggest acts have graced the multiple stages of the festival, including Coldplay, Stevie Wonder Slipknot, Paul McCartney, Guns N’ Roses and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Joining an already impressive list of headlining acts including Metallica, Bruce Springsteen and Iron Maiden, Muse broke news of their appearance via their official twitter account, saying “We’re pleased to announce that Muse will be headlining the fantastic Rock in Rio, Brazil on the 14th September 2013.”

This isn’t the first time Muse has played the festival: In 2010 they played a set in Lisbon, Portugal. However their upcoming performance at the festival will be an extension of their 2013 UK and European tour. Speaking to CBS Local, singer Matt Bellamy said: “I think it’s going to be our best tour so far. It’s like our version of [Pink Floyd’s 1979 double album and tour] ‘The Wall’.”

Speaking about the intricate and ambitious staging used at their live concerts – including a giant pyramid filled with video screens – Matt said: “Throughout the gig, it gradually comes down and consumes the band. So we end up eaten up by this pyramid thing, which is all very symbolic, of course! But we blast out of it and escape!”

It is likely more tour dates will be announced in the future, but tickets for confirmed shows are available on Ticketmaster and Muse’s official website.
