While she just missed out on winning the title of Miss Coventry 2013, contestant Devon Mayson is still on cloud 9 over the multiple awards she did manage to win at the annual beauty pageant, saying: “I’m so grateful for being awarded these titles!”
As well as winning the 2nd place award, Devon Mayson also bagged an extra two awards rounding her total up to three – the most awards received by any contestant that night. She received the Miss Charity award for raising the most money out of all the contestants, and the Miss Eco award for her home made dress.
“Considering the amount of work that went into the newspaper Eco dress between myself and my friend Toni-Anne,” said Devon, “being crowned Miss Eco made us feel our work was well appreciated, especially considering the high standard of recycled fashion projects demonstrated on the night.”
As well as creating unique, one off, recycled outfits for the event, contestants also had to raise money for various good causes, and Devon raised several hundred pounds: “I went into the competition with the aim of raising awareness for the charity work I’m currently directing, so coming out with the title of Miss Charity, well, I was elated!”
The Miss Coventry final was held in Coventry University’s brand new state of the art building The Hub, was won by Jodie Duckworth. Junior Miss Coventry went to Gina Underhill and the title of Mr Coventry went to Stuart McCann.
But rather than feeling somewhat deflated at the fact she didn’t take home the number 1 title, Devon was grateful for the opportunity to take part in the prestigious event: “Coming 2nd overall for the title was something I never expected. I’m so flattered to be considered in the same league as the other contestants, let alone to be singled out for the work that I put into this competition.”
Devon isn’t just an easy-on-the-eye one trick pony; she is currently in her final year at Coventry University studying psychology. And if that wasn’t enough she’s also a musician and model. So it’s safe to say that she has plenty of options to choose from in later life…not that she’s thinking of giving up on pageantry any time soon.
Over a week on from the contest final, Devon is still feeling the buzz and excitement of the night: “Taking part in Miss Coventry 2013 has really given me a new perspective on pageantry; the well rounded and fulfilling nature of this type of competition is definitely something I would do again.”
