Let It Be…Naked makes its digital debut on iTunes

Let It Be…Naked is the 2003 rework of the Beatles’ Let It Be, originally released in 1970. Remastered, restructured and stripped of all unnecessary additions, the album has finally been made available to buy on iTunes.

Recorded primarily in January 1969, Let It Be was not released until May 1970 due to the bands dissatisfaction with the songs recorded at the time (so big was the gap that in the intermission the band wrote, recorded and released one of their finest albums: Abbey Road!)

The band returned to the songs they had recorded for Let It Be, however due to the disintergration of the group and the constant squabbles and arguments, communication was down to a minimum. As such, John Lennon took it upon himself to allow producer Phil Spector to take control of the album. By the time Paul McCartney and producer to every other Beatles album George Martin found out and heard the results, it was too late to stop the albums release.

The original Let It Be album’s running order is as follows:

Two of Us
Dig a Pony
Across The Universe
I Me Mine
Dig It
Let It Be
Maggie Mae
I’ve Got a Feeling
One After 909
The Long and Winding Road
For You Blue
Get Back

However in 2003 Paul McCartney, with the permission of Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, returned to Let It Be and put the album right. The rework omits the two non-original songs (Dig It and Maggie Mae) and instead replaces it with Lennon’s Don’t Let Me Down which was the original B-side of Get Back. The sequencing is also changed and the very un-Beatlesy and of-the-time choirs have been removed completely.

The result is a stark, genuinely beautiful and well flowing album that shows the true beauty in each and every one of the songs, and more importantly, the fact that no matter how fragmented the band were outside of the studio, they could still sit down together and make good music.

All of the original Beatles albums were remastered and released as a box set and on iTunes in 2009, however there have been other subsequent released including the Red and Blue compilation albums. Let It Be…Naked is a continuation of this remastering project and is available to purchase on iTunes now.
