Wings Over America reissue content revealed

The next release in Paul McCartney’s reissue programme is Wings Over America, the seminal live album from Macca’s 70’s mega group Wings. The album, originally released in 1976, is set to be reissued towards the end of May.

Documenting the mammoth Wings Over America tour, the album shows McCartney at his vocal peak, bringing down the house with his rocking setlist of solo and Wings songs with a handful of Beatles songs thrown in for good measure. However despite the miniscule amount of Beatles songs, the album still caused controversy as McCartney reversed the songwriting credits from Lennon/McCartney to McCartney/Lennon. A provocative move when there was still a lot of tension between the former band mates.

The album is also notable for performances of Soily and a cover of Paul Simon’s Richard Cory, neither of which are available anywhere else. Denny Laine also takes center stage for a performance of Go Now by his former band The Moody Blues.

The Wings Over America reissue will be released in several forms:

  • Standard edition (2CD)
  • Deluxe edition (3CD + 1 DVD)
  • Vinyl (3LP)
  • Special edition (2CD + booklet)
