Single review: Elbow – New York Morning

The lead single from Elbow’s upcoming album The Take Off And Landing Of Everything, New York Morning is as grand an anthemic a song as the band have ever written, painting a brilliant musical picture of the legendary ‘city that never sleeps’.

The lead single from Opening with an atmospheric, shimmering city lights kind of introduction, a warm, low, solemn vocal soon drifts in lulling the listener into believing this will be a moody, lonely, rainy New York streets kind of song.

However, slowly but surely just like a sunrise over the Big Apple, more percussive elements emerge and with crisply played noted on the piano, New York Morning turns out to be an uplifting and exhilarating track. And topping it all off are solid and thickly layered harmonies and crisp guitar fills.

Well worth a listen, New York Morning stands proudly alongside the bands previous musical output. You can see the video to New York Morning, filmed on the streets of the city itself, at the end of this post.

Elbow’s The Take Off And Landing Of Everything is set for release on March 10th. You can also keep up to date with Elbow by visiting their official website.
