Single review: Marc O’Reilly – The Wayward Shepherd

As the driving new single from Marc O’Reilly, The Wayward Shepherd grooves along, rising and falling around its minimalistic verses and it’s harder edged crashing choruses.

Sprinkled with a bluesy folk kind of funk, the generous helping of electric guitars and pounding drums at points push it over the line into the category of the more traditional Red Hot Chili Peppers-esque funky pop rock.

Marc delivers a hauntingly quiet and low-key vocal with a shower of tight-nit harmonies filling out the soundscape. This is the kind of excitingly different and increasingly popular kind of sound that is being spearheaded by artists including Mumford & Sons and indeed Marc O’Reilly himself.

The Wayward Shepherd is a single from Marc’s album “Human Herdings” which was released in March on the Fish Records label. You can buy it here.
