Single review: RJ Thompson – The Numbers

Single review: RJ Thompson - The NumbersWith it’s infectious retro sounding synthesizer riff being doubled up on guitar, a cheekily ballsy saxophone and an even cheekier vocal, The Numbers is the quirky, fun new single from singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist RJ Thompson.

Opening with sever bars of lo-fi drums and a synthesizer riff straight out of your favourite old-school arcade game, The Numbers quickly reveals itself to be one of the insistently feel-good songs of the year so far.

Simple verses consisting of drum and bass and the odd guitar punctuation gives way to a catchy chorus layered with understated (yet still powerful) saxophone and a bluesy organ. Building and swelling until they can’t hold back any longer, they burst out into the songs bouncy retro riff once again.

The Numbers is a bouncy single with absolutely no pretensions, making it an undeniably appealing fun summer song.
