The new single from the Manchester based band is simple, but it has a lot of decisive elements to it. So without further ado let’s get into it, starting with…
The bad: The lyrics are pretty simple and straight-forwards and (most annoyingly) repetitive. The track doesn’t really go anywhere and All For One just ambles along (albeit enthusiastically) for 3-and-a-half minutes.
Having said that, let’s move on to the good: The band sounds in FINE form! Musically and vocally they sound like they’ve never been away, and the blistering guitar solo takes you right back to their glory days in the 90s. Oh and remember how I mentioned the repetitiveness of the lyrics? While they become kind of grating in the studio version, I feel they will work well in a live setting: they’re simple to remember and easy to sing.
While All For One could have been so much more, it shows that The Stone Roses still have what it takes to make appealing music, and I’m sure that whatever they have to offer in the future, it well only get better!
