The track rumbles open with a simple growling guitar riff, pounding drums and a Vox Continental organ adding nice whirly accent to the mix. As Brian Ray fires up his cocksure vocals, the guitar drops back to leave Oliver Leiber ploughing along a very rhythmic, drum driven verse, while the Continental organ stabs punctuate the musical stanzas perfectly.
As with the first single, I Feel Love‘s chorus includes a nice call-and-response between Brian and Lucrecia Lopez Sanz. The band seem to have discovered that this is always a sure fire way to light their tracks on fire: throwing the male vocal in with the female vocal always creates an energetic spark. You can almost feel the chemistry at work!
The Bayonets’ seem to have raised the bar a little higher with I Feel Love, as the lyrics really shine through, encapsulating and encompassing the all-consuming high emotions of the feeling of love. The opening line “Is it because / She tastes like Cherry Cola?” especially jumps out at me. Not sure why, but I love it!
As well as the main Bayonets trio, the track boasts Davey Faragher on bass, Matt Laug on percussion and none other than Tom Petty and The Heartbrakers’ very own Benmont Trench on the classic Vox Continental organ. It was mixed by Joe Zook and tracked by Husky Huskolds.
I Feel Love and the preceding all new single Like She Does (review here) will be included on the ‘Crash Boom Bang!’ re-release, which will be hitting stores on May 17th.
The Bayonets was co-founded by Brian Ray and Oliver Leiber, and features Lucrecia Lopez Sanz. There is also a whole array of fine, talented musicians that contributed towards ‘Crash Boom Bang!’, including (but in no way limited to) Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.
